The Italy Wiki:About
The Italy Wiki is quite simply a wiki entirely based around Italy. Generally speaking this means Italy from the time of its unification in 1861 till the present day, but with so much of the country steeped in history, there are plenty of articles and links back before then.
As the project grows we intend to have here everything there is to know about both modern and ancient Italy. This means the people, places and events that shaped the country. And the food and the drink. And the style and the life.
From Sophia Loren to Mark Antony. From Silvio Berlusconi to Leonardo da Vinci. From Polenta to Pizza!
And absolutely everything in between and beyond!
But there's more...
But this isn't just a wiki. We've got other features as well to make it the place for italophiles to spend time.
- There's the wiki itself where the pages are simple and factual and cover all aspects of Italy in an objective manner. However, each page also has a DISCUSSION/TALK page associated with it. This is for users to discuss the factural page, give their own opinion and talk about the subject in a more subjective manner.
- For a more social discussion about more general topics, you can also use the forums. These can cover anything and are ideal for asking questions about Italy since our users have a lot of experience about the subject and are very willing to help.
- And there are also Blogs. Every user by default has their own blog to talk about italian stuff; and of course they can make comments on other users as well. These are for more discursive musings on Italy.
Style
This is not an academic wiki. We aim to present useful, practical and readable articles on all aspects of Italy and Italian life. It is for people to quickly get an overview of a subject - however obscure - and learn the basic facts, understand the relationship between the subject and Italy, and come away with a good overall knowledge of that subject.
As we've said above; the wiki is objective; the discussion is subjective; the forum is chatty and the blogs are discursive.
