Early Life
Morandi made his public debut aged 12 singing in the public square of Monghidoro on New Year's Day. His parents, aware of his talent, moved him to a special school in Bologna where he studied singing and performance under Alda Scaglioni.
Career
In the early 1960s he formed a band and began performing. The press referred to him as the Italian Paul Anka. In 1962 he won a minor talent competition where he met promoter Paul Lionetti who took him to RCA Italiana. Later that year he released his first record, Andavo a cento all'ora (Going at 100kph).
By the late 1960s his popularity was booming which he kept up for the next fifty years selling an estimated 30 million records. In addition he is a popular television personality and performed all over the world.
In 1970, he represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest with Occhi di ragazza.
Morandi has also branched out into acting. In 2011 he will also present the Sanremo Music Festival.

Personal Life
Morandi was married to Laura Efrikian from 1966 to 1979 with whom he has 3 children. Since 2005 he has been married to Anna Dan with whom he has 1 child.
